My first Jeep was actually a friends. He bought a rust bucket 1977 CJ5 with a 304 that we tore the body off of without any tools. It started out that I was going to help him build it since he didn't really have all the technical knowledge but could turn a wrench if someone could tell him what to do. After about 5 months of doing the frame off his wife didn't like that he was spending time on it so we towed it over to my house and I finished it for him. In the meantime I had picked up a 1972 Bronco with a 351. Once it was finished his wife still didn't like it so he sold it to my brother and I for the price of the parts that he had in it. This was in 1990. My brother still owns it and it runs better than it ever has. I sold the Bronco and I'm now in the process of putting a 'glass body and a built 304 with an NV4500 into the 1986 CJ7 that I bought about 8 years ago. The 258 finally started to give up and there wasn't a lot of metal left for the top or doors to hang onto. I screwed my back up taking the hood off of it a month ago so it's been delayed a bit but it should be done in time for a Colorado/Utah trip next summer.

I currently have a 79 Wagoneer Limited that serves as my daily driver.

Just picked up my first AMC a few months ago in the form of a 1978 Jeep Cherokee. Needless to say it is quite a bit different than the early Ford Bronco's I spent the last 8 years playing with. I've always loved the look of the FSJ's, and while I would have preferred to find a W/T Chief with a factory 401, I can't complain as this one is in excellent condition for being 27 years old.

I have a few minor things to fix such as a leaky windshield, rewiring the headlight circuit for halogens, T-case rebuild, and eliminating the ampmeter firehazard. Once that's all done, it's on to the fun stuff!

my 1st amc is my 83 eagle wagon. always wanted one and finally found a 2nd owner car in san diego ca. the guy i bought it from lost his legs in a sand rail wreck. the beast had all the receipts from everything that was done. it also came with a T.S.M. from the factory along with the 83 supplimental book.the original owner lived 4 houses down.to find an eagle in socal was rare. to get it with the tsm,83 suppliment ,and all the reciepts for services and repairs told me these guys took very good care of it. later, rollen

First AMC Jeep is my 76 cherokee/J20 trail rig heres a couple of pics for those of you who haven't followed along. Frame, motor (360), seats, and tranny (T18) are from my 76 cherokee. Axles, and cab are from the 75 J20.
TIlt column we rescued from the U-pull it. Transfer case is a scout D20 twin stick. Tires are hummer. Hood vents are off a Le Baron turbo and will be inlet into the hood this winter. The hood scoop is an unknown truck tranny cover cut down. Hood scoop was needed to clear propane adapter. Rear fenders are Allis Chalmers tractor. Roll bar is 2 3/8s structural pipe. Propane tank holds 44 gallons. I drove it to Ouray in July other than some teething problems with the propane system( I ran out on the way up then founld out buddy had left it on full rich no wonder it was only getting 6MPG) and header bolts that kept backing out I lost 3 on the way up and 1 on the way home. Truck ran exactly as we hoped road manners are great even though the tires arn't balanced you can drive it a 70MPH and hold in your lane with only 2 fingers on the wheel. There is no sign of bump steer,even though there is no steering stabiliser or sway bar. On the trail it worked buetifully. If you wish to see more look in the fullsize forum

My first AMC was (and is) my 77 CJ-7 304 3spd. I got it by trading a canoe for it. it had sat in the previous owners driveway for so long that the tires had sunk an inch into the asphalt. It was the previos owners wifes idea to trade! :-| I gave it some love fixed the tranny and started driving it. then the racing bug bit. I had previously pit crewed and mud raced a few of my friends Jeeps, but never my own. I didn't do to bad won a bunch of races over a few years and ended up 2nd in points one year with the Iowa Mud Runners Assc. (now defunct #-o ) The thing I loved best was when race day was over and I was in the pits drinking someone elses beer and letting them look at my trophy, and listen to them complain thet I HAD to be doing somthing illegal with the motor! It was fun to beat the BBC boys most of all! I now have my 71 Javelin SST and love it too. BTW I have several other Jeeps in pieces. My wife told me once that the next time the trailer left the yard IT HAD BETTER HAVE SOMETHING ON IT!

Yup -agree :? that's why I'll never do it again!! Iv'e spent the bucks to rebuild two 4.2's for the CJ and YJ and the 360 is getting the treatment to go into the Grand Waggie!! :razz: :lo1l:

First Jeep was an 84 CJ7 renegade. Loved that Jeep, but an ass turned on a green light and "head on'd" me. We were both doing about 60 kph. Still say that if not for seatbelt I'd be dead. Used parts from her to build my first REAL AMC Jeep. By real I mean first with a true AMC powerplant. Body is an 85. Not sure if this counts, but thought I'd enter :mrgreen:

My first (that I titled and insured) is the 82 J20 that I drive now. I have had many from the family (willys, Rambler, Kiser and various AMC's) though.

My first was a 1979 CJ7, 304, auto, street tires. That thing was fast. My sister and I shared it in High School and we used to race it against a classmate that had a 300ZX and would beat him everytime. As they say, there is no replacement for displacement.

My first AMC was a 79 j10 I bought from a friend.I'd always wanted a FS Cherokee...but the j10 was close enough...haha!BUT! I've recently purchased a 83 Cherokee laredo that Is my new project.Some seats and a Motor and I'll be on the road. I'll post pic's later of both of them a.s.a.p I live in Augusta Ga. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- it was an AMX 2 seater dark metallic green you know the one with the little bar down the rear window believe it was 68 or 69 model with a 390 v-8 and a torque command auto tranny , steel mags and the large AMX on the rear pillars. got her from a crazy pot smoking old dude up the street from where i lived when i was in high school back in the early 70's. talk about fast 'vettes and the camaro z28 you know that one two( yes the orginail ) would run and hide from these as you looked for them one those friday night street races. :? :mrgreen: Back to top

First AMC is my '79 Chief. My second may well be the 4 door i keep seeing on UK Ebay. However i have to figure out how to hide it in the garage so she doesn't see it... :idea: The chief needs a complete teardown and rebuild, so all the fluids i can get will be appreciated.

A '79 Cherokee Chief in England? Cripes, I'm surprised they don't lock you up as a menace to society. You could go right over the top of a Mini Cooper or Anglia and scarcley notice the "bump" :lo1l: :?:
