yes you read right i am building a twin turbo 401 the block is .030 over right now, im getting the 0.35 over forged pistons from flatlanderracing, dont know what im doing for rods yet but im using stock iron heads with ss'amx valves, 7/16 stud mount crane roller rockers with girdles, comp springs, and i have ported them my self i have numbers will post later, using a cantan deep sump oil pan and pick up getting the external pickup spacer to fead the turbos with oil, torker intake, csu 750 cfm blow trough carb, pro-gram 4 bolt main, o- ring the block with sec head gaskets, msd pro billit dizzy, msd 6-btm (boost timing managment), bulltear dist, and cam gears, melling high flow oil pump, 1100 hp fuel pump from robbmcperformance, just to list a few things lol i will be making custom manifolds to mout the twin gt-28 turbos. that will be making 14 psi of boost. so i wanna know what you think of this build, or what i should do different or add or what?

make sure you sonic check the cylinder walls to make sure they'll be thick enough to handle the amount of power you'll be making.
fast77amx
already did it

Interesting!
Mudrat
Did I miss what turbo's you'll be slinging onto this beastie??
ironman_gq
I think he said gt-28 turbos. not sure what it means though not too familiar with boosted engines.

Ball bearing turbocharger
* Oil & Water-cooled bearing system
* High Performance BCI-18 Compressor and UHP Turbine
* Perfect for high-horsepower, smaller displacement engines at elevated boost levels
* T3 turbine inlet flange and 4-bolt turbine outlet flange
* Turbine housing is cast from high-nickel "Ni-Resist" material for extreme applications
i have decided to go with a gt35 instead, its still made by garrett but it is for 2.0 to 4.0 litter engines and makes 400 to 600 hp each

Sounds like a heck of a project fast77amx. I just want enough $$$ to get that AMX off the lot up here, ship it home, and NOT get divorced!!!
fast77amx
i still dont know what to do for rods though i dont want to use the stock ones bc i dont think they will hold. one guy said get carillos but there 1900 and im not paying that for rods
ironman_gq
didnt eagle make rods. or is there a way to make chevy rods work?
fifesjeep
Scat forged rods are pretty cheap not sure about HP rating though
fast77amx
scat rods are cheep but there 5.885 not 5.858 so idk

I have been patiently waiting a few years to see someone do this....
Blown7
Actually Hankrod did this a couple years ago, do a search for his thread. Nice build.

It was a REALLY nice build. There was a lot of custom plumbing and a radiator relocate/move if I remember.
Lifted79CJ7
Yeah, I saw his, but that was a single turbo...this is TWIN TURBO! :!: Now if we can get Blown7 to slap twin 671's on his, he'll be reigning champ.....and raining engine parts.

ok so ive talked to ppl on the amc forum and they say to go to comp cams tell them what im doing and they will make a great custom grind cam for me. well i know im gonna use a manual tranny with this but i just dont know what one and it needs to hold up to around 900 hp i want an over drive 5 speed or 6, i would like a world class t-5 but dont know how strong they are. what type of cluch should i go with also, i already have an amc 20 rear with moser 1 piece forged axles so i dont think ill have to wory there, im gonna go with an aburn pro seires locker with 3:54 gears already have the gears. and its all going in my 77 hornet amx after the 304 i just built blows up or somthing lol

With that much snort, I'd accept nothing less than a Dana 60 in the back. 35-spline is the ONLY way to fly.

I don't know man... a 9" will handle it with ease as-well... Plus it's smaller, lighter and has better clearances... common 5 lug pattern and you can't walk through a junk yard without seeing a handful... Just food for thought.
