I am rebuilding a 401 this winter, bout i have problem finding main and rod bearings fore
this engine. They have to be 040, and i tryed almost anyhwere to find thise bearings.
Can somewone help me here please.......

I think this discussion has come up before. .040" bearings for the 390/401 may not be available. Last I heard, King Bearings had some in stock, but weren't planning on making any more.
Have you thought of having the journals welded and cut back to standard?

I have been in contact whit King and they say its ounder development,,,,,,!!
bout i dont vant to wait a year or two fore this. I want 400hp in my jeep now.!!
yes i have thougt about asking the guys in the machineshop if they can "fix" the cranc so i can by "normal" bearings... maybe this is the only way...

Yes you will have to get them to weld up the crank. Then go .010 because std bearings are not available anymore.

Thanks fore the tip....First ting monday i take a trip to the machineshop and ask if they can help me whit this.. And then i need som tips of what parts i need to make my 401 produce somewhere betwen 400 to 450 hp.

Car Craft did an article a couple of years ago. They got 484 HP and 500 ft/lb of torque on pump gas.
You may be able to cut the crank to 2.1" rod journals and use Chevy 6" rods, and custom pistons. The mains would still need to be welded up.
