Ok, I don't have a book and I would like to know the valve that just starts to open on TDC.
Is it the passenger side, front, second one in from the front?
Thanks,

That would be the first valve on the drivers side, also known as the exhaust valve

OK, so when it starts to open then I'm @ TDC.
Thanks,

If your timing mark pointer and the mark on the dampener is at top dead center and as it passes the valve will just start to open. When the exhaust valve starts to open you should be passing top dead center mark on the dampener so you will need to back it up to put it at top dead center. If the valve is opening you have passed TDC.

thanks again

OK, primed the motor (oil - 63 PSI at cranking), turned the crank just as the exhaust rocker twitched, then I set it there as my wife was guiding me (cough, cough).
The person who had this motor before had the number one @ the fourth position from the cap clip by the power steering pump (can't remember the number).
So, I moved the number one to the number 8 position on the cap, just this side of the clip toward the front of the motor pointing to the vacuum advance screw.
Started to crank it and she pissed an moaned/backfired.
Question: dizzy advance, is it clockwise or counter clockwise/moving the vacuum advance to the passenger side or drivers side.
I did notice the holley pouring fuel in the back bowel so now I have to check that, got spark though.
I'm gonna look up the manual fuel pump I bought and see what it puts out, if to much I'll have to get a regulator, that might be the problem w/the rear bowel.

Here is the pump I installed, a 6505. I have to check on the pressure it puts out.

I think AZone/Advanced or some thing.

rollbar- what are you trying to do?
on the number one cylinder on the compression stroke TDC both valves are closed and the spark should fire shortly BTDC
on the exaust stroke tdc you are at overlap...the intake valve is opening and the exaust is closing- dependng on how big a cam you have

I was setting the Dizzy, its completed now. Thanks,
