I was wondering if synthetic would be better for start up (older engine been sitting) or regular oil. Seems to me the synthetic is slicker or is that a misnomer, in this case. What would you prefer as a start up oil in this case?
Thanks,
Jim

I'd probably run dino oil just so if there's a problem or leak, I won't have wasted a lot of money. Once it's checked out, and had a chance to flush out. Then run whatever you can afford. Remember that small leaks usually get bigger with synth oil.

you dont want to run synthetic oil in a fresh motor until it is broke in otherwise the rings wont seat properly or so that is what i was told

Question, I looked in a old book I have and under the 304CID capacities it lists 5 qts for the oil capacity.
I put 5 qts of oil in the 360 w/a 1258 NAPA Gold filter. Got to dark for me to check and COLD.
So if you don't mind, how many qts of oil does the 360 take w/a filter like the one I have.
Thanks,
Jim
P.S. I tried to search but I wasn't successful.

All AMC V-8s are 5 quarts w/filter (unless you have an aftermarket pan). Generally it doesn't hurt to run even 1/2 quart extra in a stock pan.
