fired engine today weird noise revved it up sparks flew out of bellhousing of trans, auto, pulled inspection cover could see that the starter gear was hitting the flywheel
engine and trans out of same doner just rebuilt reman starter for doner vehicle
engine and trans were out of vehicle when puchased
doner is 87 waggy 360 727
is there suposed to be a spacer between the starter and trans or a spacer between the crank and flywheel
measured it with a micrometer need atleast .250 spacer to make it work but i was curious if i over looked something

87-91 I believe used a different size ring gear and starter.

I believe the starter tooth count was different.

picked up a starter for an 88 going to try it this weekend the gear doesnt stick out anywhere near as far as the the 87 starter so it should work

the new starter worked great went to breakin the cam blew the lower rad hose off of the water pump
