I just installed my new 360 and started driving it. In about a 15 minute drive at moderate speeds in temps between 80-95 degrees the engine keeps reaching temps around 220. I have a 4 core radiator topped off new water pump. I am also running a tauraus electric fan which pumps gobs of air. It is fuel iinjected using F.A.S.T.'s EZ-EFI and I am running fenderwell headers. I know extra heat is normal during break in but for how long. I am debating whether I need to add hood louvers to keep it cool. The motor is also 40 over with 9-1 compression and an RV style comp cam.

Is your Timing correct? Fuel to ratio might be a little tweaked, possible air pocket  Those taurus fans draw a lot of air, it's not spinning the wrong way correct? Start simple and go from there.
You did do the 20 minute break in before you started driving it around right? change fluids and bring it down the road bringing her up to speed and letting off (Not staying at a constant speed) for a few miles.

Timing is either 10 or 15 cant remember. fuel ratio is computer controlled constantly fly by this EZ EFI system so I dont believe it is that. Fan is pulling through the rad and blowing a ton of air back across the motor. I did the break in I did not change the fluids yet I was gonna put 200 miles on it that oil shouldnt cause it to over heat. I have had some repairs to my rad for broken tubes before and it does have a trans cooler in front of it.

Is your O2 sensor working correctly or do you have an EXH leak close by it? If it's reading wrong, the computer will try and compensate and you may in a very lean condition.

O2 sensor is reading correctly as far as i can tell no codes. The sensor is just before the end of the collector. The collector does have a small leak at it though this could cause this?

It wouldn't hurt to seal up the exhaust...
What kind of exhaust are you running?
If your timing is on and the block and internal parts are mechanically sound, I'd check O2 sensor... like I said, the fuel/air mixture might be a little tweaked.
Double check your timing...
What is your total timing set at?
What thermostat are you using?
What gas are you running?
Water Gauge... Mechanical or Electric?
etc

The exhaust is fenderwell headers into hollow glass packs into tips probably a total of 3 feet of exhaust after the collector. The O2 is brand new and came with the kit it is reading fine on my handheld display as is the fuel mixture. I am running plain old pump gas the cheap stuff 89 or whatever it is. Thermostat is I believe a 180 whatever stock is and the fan kicks on at 190 as well. The gauge is a sensor in the intake then straight to the handheld display so electric.

220 really isnt that hot considering the 4.0's run 210 stock and still last 250k. I would take the tranny cooler out from in front of the radiator and see if temps drop and go from there.

Ya i moved the electronic box for the winch out of the way earlier today an d plan on moving the trans cooler tommorow. I wasnt sure if 220 was hot some sites were saying it was. My old 360 never had a temp gauge other than the stock one. Now I have a digital gauge so I might just be freaking out for nothing.

Its a little warm but not what I would call hot 230-250 would be hot. If its not boiling over your probably OK. If you have access to one of those laser thermometers you can run it over the front of your radiator to look for cold spots which would indicate plugged areas, you can do the same with the block and heads to find hot spots and blocked passages
