I found this Warn winch at a garage sale for $80. It came with a fairlead, controller and Warn snatch block. :!: Took it home, threw some jumper cables on it and it works! Woo Hoo, money well spent. All I know is he said it was a 8000lb winch, the only markings are the 75730 & LO7 stamped on it. Can anyone tell me more about it?

Score! :!: :!: :!: :!:
It's a Warn 8274. The 5 digit stamped number is it's serial #, the 3 digit # is a date code, although I don't know how to decipher it. Because it's clutched (good), it could be from the 70's to the 90's, when they brought out the 8274-50. Looks like you're missing the bearing/drum support/mount plate from one end of the drum. That should still be available from Warn.
I bought mine in the late 80's, it was built in 1974 (3 years older than my Jeep). Paid $400 then and got a good deal. It's always been dependable, and I've used it pretty hard.

Great! Thanks. Do these have clutches or other internal parts that get old and worn making it not as strong? I thought I heard that at one time. Now I have to figure out what I want to do with it, I already have one on the front. Maybe put it on the back? You can never be over prepared! :toothy8:
I do have the bearing support/bracket, just not in the picture.

The clutch is more of an "anti-kickback" device. Once you remove power, the clutch kicks in to lock the drum so it can't reverse direction. The black knob next to it pulls out to allow the drum to freewheel. I've never seen one go bad on a 8274. Most winches sold as 8K will stall at 8K. The 8274 will pull 8K, probably stall closer to 10K. They're also very fast, line speed (especially unloaded) is very high.
I've pulled my Jeep plus 2 full size Bronco's, all 3 with brakes locked across a level dirt field with mine. We were trying to free another Jeep buried to it's frame in some sticky gumbo mud.

Biggest problem you'll have is with the solenoids going out. Rebuilt my 2-3 times, then "lost" it when I sold the Scrambler  Standard Starter relays, just watch the wiring unless you have or get the TechManual to re-wire them.
Good find and it WILL serve you well!!!!
