Oh, great..After reading through the forums I just realized something. There's no centering bushing in my 401 crank for the TH400 transmission.
That could explain the minor vibration over 3k RPM. I'd better get one on order and pull the engine. (much easier at home than dropping the tranny).
My big question. What did I f* up? I have probably 2k miles on the thing. I'm thinking on dropping the pan and checking the mains while I'm there. Good idea? I sure hope the front pump is alright.

Thanks MC, well I pulled the motor this weekend. And, guess what. My crank does have the bushing. The donor vehicle (wagoneer) must have had a TH400. But I hadn't paid too much attention when I pulled the engine. (200 miles from home, 5pm, out in a guys field with nothing but a bag of hand tools.) I guess that's good news. Now on to figuring out what's wrong. It didn't vibrate on the dyno. I do know the 360 I had in there before the 401 didn't have one. I wonder if that contributed to my thrust bearing problems?
