I`m getting my 401 put together and ran into a potential snag. I think the stock pushrods are too short. I`m using a set of 090 heads, and Scorpion 7/16 1.6 ratio roller rockers. When I was setting the lash, I noticed that the poly locks bottomed out on the stud about 3/4 turn past the pushrod being snug. That sounds too close for adjustment purposes. Should I get some extended pushrods? What length over stock?

You can be anywhere from 7.915 to 8.150 (stock is 7.800)

Are you using the factory rocker studs? If so, get rid of them. Buy some ARPs for SBC. You'll probably want to buy or borrow an adjustable pushrod for checking the length that you need. When you change the head from stock, you must measure for the proper pushrod length.

Comp Cams, summit etc has the pushrod checker... I have one from comp cams...
