360 to 383+ stroker

Here's my first contribution/request for thoughts. First, what I envision. 387..call it a 388 stroker motor wanting between 10-10.5:1 compression. It might go to the track once or twice in it's life, more daily driver, weekend cruiser, with the ability to smoke the tires on the way to work if I want. Now what I have. Block-360..will bore to 4.125 to accept (cost effective)Chebby pistons. An Edelbrock($Broke$?) top end--Air gap intake, 60119 aluminum heads, timing, and two Eddy cams 2132, and 7132. Which brings me to the crank. A 390 that I'm thinking of having offset ground to accept the 2.2 chev rods(again $ effective) If I'm thinking correctly, when offset grinding, you add the differance to the stroke...yeah? 3.574+.048 (2.248-2.2)= 3.622 stroke. Or Am I doing bad math somewhere? OR..while spending hour after hour searching for connecting rods miss a custom manufacturer that didn't want 4-5 times the cost of the chev rods. I can pick up a set of2.2 forged rods for about $275.

A 360 bored to 4.125 will need a sonic check, especially if it's a newer casting. Chevy pistons don't have the valve reliefs in the right places for AMC heads, so plan on having them re-cut at that compression.

There was rumor that Flatlander Racing was going to offer an AMC stroker kit. They don't show it on their web site yet, but it may be worth a call.

I'd love to see one. A buddy has a Chevy 383 stroker in an old FJ Landcrusher. What a torque monster. I'd imagine an AMC with similar specs would be the same.
