I built a 4.7 stroker 6 cylinder for my 2003 TJ(258 crank in a .040 over 4.0 block). It runs great. But now I am looking at building another 6 cylinder stroker for my next Jeep project. I am looking at using Chevy 250 6 cylinder, H beam rod. That is the only rod I can find with a smaller crank pin, 2.000, and a big end wide enough,1.050, to use on the AMC/Jeep 258 crank.
My question has to do with crankshaft journal overlap. Is there a minimum amout of journal overlap that should be maintained when offset grinding a cast crankshaft. This crank will be offset ground only...no welding will be done. I am looking to get a 4 inch stroke. The 258 has a 3.895 stroke, with a 2.095 crank pin. I know will have to use a .020 undersize bearing for the Chevy 250 to achive this.
