hello all.
i'm having a perplexing oil pressure issue. am starting to think it may be my Rhoades V-Max lifters.
fresh engine. bearing clearances are perfect. lapped the pump to a nearly nil gear clearance. side clearances are a couple thou.
at startup it'll hold 80lbs,even at a slow choppy idle. dwindles to about 15 lbs hot.
i've never had oil pump problems before, even with un-prepped pumps all my fresh engines have idled at 30+ hot.
i see no reason for the pressures i have, except for the rhoads....?
getting a little discouraging.....

80lbs is high for a stock spring. You say it dwindles if it suddenly dropped to 15 I would blame the plunger. 65psi difference should not happen even with a 200 degree change in oil temperature. I would definately suspect something else. I havent seen a set of rhodes in our shop for a while and I do remember them having issues with low oil pressure butnever bleeding it off.

i have a high pressure spring. it happens gradually as it warms up. i agree, that's an awful big dwindle....i don't know where it can be going, everything else is good to go.

Do you have the internal oiling mod?
Ristow
you mean the oil line under the manifold? no.

I WOULD CHECK THE PUMP GEAR TO HOUSING CLEARANCE AND FACTOR IN THE COMPRESSED GASKET THICKNESS. MOST ISSUES I HAVE SEEN LIKE THIS WERE RELATED TO THE END CLEARANCE.
