Oil Pan Questions

The 360 I am working has a rusty oil pan. Not rusty as in rotten, but lots of surface scale. I've been working on cleaning it up to paint by using a wire wheel on my die grinder. I got one side done and it still looks like doggie doo. Been thinking about a replacement oil pan. I see where Bulltear has a sale on the 8 quart oil pan. So, I am writing to ask for advice if I need or want a larger oil pan. My 360 is going in a 1982 J10 that will see mostly the street and maybe some light trail riding with a trip or two the Dunes at Silver Lake Michigan. Are the extra 3 quarts be the worth it? Is the pickup tube for the deeper pan hard to install?

Pickup tube is easy to install and 3 quarts is worth it IF your rodding on the motor.

I am not rodding my motor.
This a older engine that has some miles but is in good shape.
I am painting the block and want the engine to look its best.

My J10 will not be a Go Fast Boulevard Bruiser, but a 1/2 ton 4X4 pickup truck.

I read where that pan is yellow zinc plated.
Can a person paint over this with the standard AMC blue paint that you sell?
Does this pan come with the larger pickup?

I've never had the pan off an AMC yet, so I am not sure how the pick get installed.
I take it from your comments that it must be a bolt on?
Does one need to adjust the pickup to a certain distance to bottom of the pan?

No backorder right now Fife they are all clear zinc right now. You can paint over them. Pickup tube is actually screwed into the block. You simply unscrew it and install a new one with a little teflon tape. Center the head on the pickup tube and bolt up the pan.
