heavier flywheel

anyone make a heavier flywheel than the generic cast ones that are hollowed out on the back side? Buddy of mine at one time had a 304 that the previous owner had machined an insert that bolted onto the back of the flywheel and that idea has since always interested me. just currious. MC you dabble with anything like this?

google it a guy did that to a 258 where he machined a ring to fit the flywheel then put index pins in and bolted it on and had the whole thing rebalanced. He added 10lbs to the thing and said his 258 became almost unstallable.

Not exactly sure of the weight difference but I have a hays billet steel flywheel on my 390. It felt heavier than the origional cast. I have a spare steel one that I was told came off of one of the superstock amx's if you're interested?

I called tri country just to see what an enertia ring might cost a guy. it was $155 :razz:

Kind of thinking it isnt necessary with the 401 since i cant stall it out as it is but it might help my wife's 360 powered cj. :?:

:idea: still thinking about it. i know it won't have any adverse effects on idle-ability might even smooth things out when i get into the 300-400 rpm range with the new motor.... we'll see anyways. i ordered one feedback this fall or whenever the motor gets installed :idea:

I always liked how my old buick 225 couldn't be stopped and my 401 is just like that but a little extra weight on the flywheel can't hurt anything.

MC talked me out of it
