Mudrat jeepsr4ever wroteFederal Mogul/Speed Pro are no longer producing forged AMC 401 pistons So when are YOU going to provide them??? :?:
Dusty fix the stupid valve reliefs on top for better quench will ya do some 9:1 and something .5 higher. everyone is trying to achieve a 9:1 motor or 9.5+/- or 9.6:1 compression ratio the 9.8:1's are a pain in the ass. compression ratio is right at the top of what pump gas can sustain and the double valve relief is not as friendly as it wonce was. a nice forged piston with good quench designed around the 58cc heads will be a savior for our engines. KB came close but the rings are not common/ easy to come by and their wrist pin can be an issue since you then have to bush the rods you know the other piston thats missing these days is a forged piston for 360's that is worth a crap.
ironman_gq anybody ever do billet pistons? how would they compare to forged if you ignore the costs involved?
jeepsr4ever Well we are moving forward and will be offering forged AMC 360 and 401 pistons for $575 a set. I know this is $100 more than the Speed Pro pistons that were recently discontinued but they are definately worth it. These pistons will come with wrist pins. If you want full float thats another $65. We will be annoucing a preorder in the next two weeks. To the guys that have been asking about forged 360 pistons here they are. Thanks for hanging in there with us! Avialable in 9-1 and 9.6-1 AMC 304,360 and 401 .030 and .060
jeepsr4ever I wont have apic of the tops until the first run of pistons is done. We are looking at 9.5-1 compression with 58cc heads for the production pieces. The better thinner chevy style 1/16" rings can be used with these and stock pins will be shipped with these. They weight 420-450g which is light. Definately a killer piston!!
