hey guys ,
got the engine back together put new cam gear and dizzy. tried to fire it and im getting backfire out the exhaust.check tdc. three,four times rotor pointing at #1 didnt remove any plug wires. now when it broke it backfired twice than died.any ideas? had the block cut to 0 deck height shaved the heads .045 gasket could i have bent a valve by chance?

Sounds like it's 180 degrees off on the timing. Make sure you are setting TDC on the compression stroke and not the exhaust stroke.

i got it . had the rotor point at # 1 cyld. instead of #1 plug wire on the cap. fired right off.have one more ? i forgot what i had it time at any ideas im thinking 7 or 8 degees? :?:

8-10 is usually good for most engines but it depends on your setup some can go as high as 15 but 8-10 is a good place to start

I need a new timing light I think. Set up and running nicely, (before the hub issue) with the vacc removed and pluged, at 800 rpm I'm showing 40* on the adjustable light 111!!!

I got one like that too. at all in it shows ~60 degrees 111!!!
