360 Exhaust Manifold/Fuel Line Distance

I'm not sure, that's why I'm asking. The collector is only 1 3/4" away. My thinking is maybe to bend it back & run it up the tub when I get it on unless it's alright here. Or, maybe install a heat shield :thumbdown:

Are you using the factory mechanical fuel pump, or electric? If you're going factory, the V-8 fuel pump is on the other side. That was from a 6 cylinder application. A factory V-8 Jeep had the fuel line down the driver side rail. On the 2 V-8 conversions I've done, we extended the line to the front, under the front crossmember, then back to the pump on the other side. It worked without heat shields. If you're electric, and just extending up to the carb, then a small tin heat shield attached to the frame rail should do. Bob tufcj

Ok, thank you. I was just thinking 1-3/4" might be cutting it close.

Now, as for the return line (I replaced all the lines w/SS & the frame was bare when I picked it up so I went w/the bigger feed line only), I do not have one. Running the V8 & the 600 D-Pumper should I get one? I notice a lot of guys not running one. I am going to run a 20 gallon polly tank.

Like ironman said, the return line keeps the fuel flowing to avoid vapor lock. It also stabilizes pressure against the needle valves in the carb, and extends life of the fuel pump, since it isn't hydraulicing when the needles are closed. It isn't needed, my 69 AMX 390 runs fine without one, but my CJ vapor locked badly when the rubber hose on the return line kinked. Kind of a "wait and see" situation, but it's easier to add the line now with the body off. Bob tufcj

I am running a mechanical pump so my fuel line runs just like yours , might be closer and no problems. I am also not running a return line and have had decent luck with it.

Thanks. Please define decent :-| I'll need to order a SS return & like Bob said, it would be easier w/the tub off. Still trying to make up my mind and or save 90 bucks (Pre-bent).

I HAVE NOT HAD ANY FUEL BOILING PROBLEMS THAT SOMETIME OCCUR WITHOUT A RETURN LINE. WHAT HAPPENS IS ON A HOT SHUTDOWN THE FUEL PRESSURE IN THE LINE TO THE CARB CAN BUILD AS A RESULT OF THE INCREASE HEAT FROM THE " HEAT SOAK " THIS COULD EXCEED THE NEEDLE AND SEAT'S ABILITY TO HOLD AND IT COULD FLOOD THE CARB. ALSO IF THE FUEL IS TOO HOT IN THE LINE IT COULD BOILS AND VAPORIZE THEN YOU GET VAPOR LOCK. THE MECHANICAL PUMP CAN'T PUMP A VAPOR THE THE ENGINE RUNS OUT OF FUEL SORRY FOR THE CAPS I TOOK MY CONTACTS OUT AND I CAN BARELY SEE WITHOUT THEM...... JOE B

Jim, When I swapped the 8 for the 6 I ran up the passenger side (stock) and under the radiator cross memeber like Bob (Tufcj) did. Added a filter before the mech pump (off the cam) and pressure regulator after the pump using Russell braided fuel lines to the Holley - no problems so far. 'Rat

:t: Thanks. I did buy the bigger fuel line for the V8's. I'll do w/out it & see what happens but if something comes in then I'll install it & leave it plugged off for future etc. Thanks :sa:
