When I get back from this deployment I'll have a nice chunk of change that has mysteriously been collecting/set-a-side :? (Hopefully the ol' lady won't catch on until it's too late) :!: My idea is to "re-vamp" the 360... by Bumping the compression up to 12.5:1 or 13:1... putting a nice strip cam... I've also been looking at a nice set of Indy Heads but the $$$$ that they want for them will put me down and ultimately hold up finishing the project for about a year...
Anyway,... there's no doubt in my mind that I will be using a belt driven oil pump... so with that said, here comes the questions... who has used them? what make and model would you recommend? and are there any concerns/ideas/secret tips etc that i should be aware of that will make for a one time successful adventure.
And a spin off of that, has anybody ever used or designed a belt driven oil pump? (Not company's just good ol' boys trying to pinch a penny). I like challenges and I'd love to build/fabricate/machine a belt driven oil pump... Something that will be highly simple and extremely reliable through out the rpm ranges.
Are there any schematics/blue prints on belt driven oil pumps?
My apologies for all of the questions... I'm just trying to get a jump on this and get the cogs turning a little..
thanks in advance.

Why not an Indy timing cover too? Pricey, but nice.
I thought you could make a cog drive pulley that would sit between the harmonic and lower pulley, then a custom lower pulley the same amount shorter. The factory lower pulley is pretty tall so I think it could be done. Then you'd just need brackets for the pump.
The only drawback there is that the belt is exposed. It would be OK for street use, but not good for 4-wheeling.

I like the ideas.. but before I spend the $$$ on a pump I wonder if there isn't any pre-existing pieces of equipment that can be modified to function efficiently. I'm thinking more or less along the lines of a junkyard pick a part... do some modifications and have something "different"... simple, effective and durable...
When I get back to the states I'll have to pull this thread up and check out the link with the pics... these computers won't allow me to pull the pictures up... thanks for the inputs... still looking for some crazy ideas that might be possible with modifications... 111!!!
This motor will most likely be gently caressed by the likes of a 65 rambler... =D>

i dont know of any factory vehicles with an external oil pump that is belt driven. the only thing i can think of might be some industrial equipment or maybe a low pressure hydraulic pump.

I was think along those lines as-well... I know on some of the larger metal lathes they have a separate sump with a belt driven oil pump... I was think about pulling the schematics and modifying the design or going bigger... I still have to get the needed information to see if that is possible... The only issue that I think I might run into is the oil pressure and idle... unless I use a small pulley but then the filtration system might not be as effective... any thoughts ideas? I guess I could add an additional filter some where along the line...
