dooghssr Almost complete with the new Torqueflite 727 install. What is the biggest size lines I can run up to the radiator cooler and should what kind of lines should I run (hard or soft liness)?
tufcj I think the factory lines were either 5/16" or 3/8". Going bigger won't gain anything, because flow will always be limited by the fitting at the tranny. I suppose you could drill/tap that bigger, but I wouldn't do it unless the tranny was apart. It would just take one aluminum shaving to mess things up. Aluminum or mild steel lines up to the radiator, then 6" or so of rubber hose or braided line. The hard line is more dependable, but you need a piece that flexes to allow for the engine/trans to move. If you do it all in hard line, it could eventually stress crack. Rubber hose can wear or harden and crack with age and heat, plus I've seen rubber hose break down inside as it ages. You don't want that inside the trans. Bob tufcj
dooghssr I prefer not to block the front of my radiator. I already have over heating issues. I just go my new alum. radiator w/a trans cooler. I hope it all works.
dooghssr I got some 5/16" steel line, but after watching Musclecar this morning I think I want to run braided line. Will this product from summit work. It says for gas or diesel. http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=SPE%2D29325&view=1&N=700+4294864206
tufcj I'm not sold. It's braided on the outside, so it is abrasion resistant, but it's still rubber hose on the inside. It WILL break down over time, the more heat, the faster. It would be a good flex piece between the line and cooler, but I wouldn't use it for the full run. Steel or aluminum will take a bit more work, but you'll never have to worry about it once it's in. ATF has a LOT of detergents in it. I'd make sure it was rated for ATF before ordering it (and get it in writing from the manufacturer). Bob tufcj
dooghssr Well you just made the rest of my weekend very long, but I will run the steel lines that I already purchased. Thanks for the input.
dooghssr Is it ok to mix standard ATF with a synthetic? I am not sure what is currently in it. I was going to add a quart of standard, but if it is synthetic already I don't want to screw it up.
