I am definitely a newbie at this sort of engine work so I wanted to be very sure before I did something "unreversible".
I am drilling/tapping a set of 360 heads for studs for roller rockers. From what I can measure, if I drill the holes deep enough for the studs after milling off the mountpoints enough for the guide plate + stud nut height I am in danger, if not certain, to drill thru to the intake/exhaust passages.
What is the usual practice? Shorten the threaded portion of the stud or drill into the passage and then loctite the studs in place and grind them smooth?

I've never seen them go thru, but I've had a machine shop do the drill/tap when the boss is milled.
You only machine about .375" (3/8") off the boss, But I don't think the hole needs to be that much deeper as long as it's tapped with a bottoming tap. Remember that you'll have .125" or so UNDER the stud from the guide plate. I've used SBC studs for use with rollers, I don't know the length of the stud base offhand.
