Hi guys,
I've been looking around for info on rebuilding my amc 360, I found lots of info on this site :lo1l: :lo1l: :lo1l:
the major teardown is done and I will bring it to the machine shop for the usual hot tanking and block, head , crank look out and machining if needed
I would like to know what are the '' must have '' tools when putting the engine back in one piece
here's the things I own
-Piston ring compressor
-piston ring expender
-valve spring compressor
-dial indicator wt magnetic base
-timing light
please fill me in
I want to do as much as I can
Wrench Man
You must have a torque wrench or two, and not one of these cheap Chinese ones from Harbor Freight either!

As far as wrenches and other common mechanic tools. My tool boxes are full of them and not the cheap one :t:
I've been working on jeeps and cars for a few years now I can do pretty much everything on a Jeep, I've also done some basic engine seal and gasket, water pump abd accessories work... but never done a full engine rebuild so, I was looking for special tools
degree wheel? pulley harmonic ballancer puller ? piston rod stud protector maybe ?

I highly recommended getting a degree wheel and degreeing your cam. Also, one of the engine turning nuts sold here on Bulltear really comes in handy.

ok thanks, I will look into that for sure!

One pair of Solid Lifters, I got mopar brand
a pair of adjustable length pushrods, I got crane brand
for checking pushrod length and rocker geometry.
Eight inch Calipers for measuring pushrods.
Some modeling clay for checking piston to valve clearance.
As mentioned the big crank turning nut and a great big
combination wrench 2-1/8 I think maybe ? I got harbor frieght
Can't use a socket on it when the Degree wheel is mounted.
Some full split clamp collars of sizes that will fit
the pickup tube, head and trans dowels,
used to remove those items without damage
put the clamp collar on and grap it with the channel locks.
If stock square hole oil galley pipe plugs in the block
I had to get the correct square head socket from snap-on.
Make a cam installation tool - weld a 3/8-24 I think bolt
to an about 3 foot long piece of like 1/2 steel rod.
The bolt screws into front of the cam and the bar gives ya a
nice big handle on the lubed up cam while putting it in the block.
A nice BullTear Oil Pump priming tool.

Also they sell a crank turning nut on here that is really helpful while reassembling an engine.
