OK...so I've gone back and forth about putting in a 360 in my commando. I think since i have a perfectly good 304 already in there....I'll keep it for the time and tweek it just a little. What kind of HP/torque can I expect on a stock bottom end and heads with a new intake, rv cam and tbi?
The 304 only has 60k mile on it now...thus the reason for keeping it...and it will make the down time much less as well since a new motor with a baby on the way is not in the options anymore.

mid 200's should be doable with a good intake and exhaust with a cam and better ignition and will have better mileage with the tbi than the 360 would. torque should be close to 300 if built well with a good parts combo

The STOCK 304 that came in my 72 CJ5 was rated at 250hp and 300ft/lb torque. That was with a 2 barrel and points ignition, and I believe it had every bit of it. With some aftermarket parts like intake, 4 barrel or injection, good ignition and exhaust, should be able to get up to 300hp easily enough.

go with the 360 right away
by the way no stock 304 are even close to 200hp in a cj.... those are gross number, its 150 to 110 hp if I remember correctly for a stock 304 depending on the year you have look around its easy to get the specs out there on the net

In 81' i think the 304 was listed at 120 hp and the I-6 was at 110.....i had a 304 i done up for my CJ and after a year i aquired a 360 for cheap and the power difference is awesome.....carb, intake, ignition, cam, and headers on a 304 to a stock 360 304 aint got shit
