OK what is the realistic gain in going from 8.5 to 1 to 9 to 1 compression?
The 291C heads would give 9.0 and the 090 heads would give 8.5. The down side as I mentioned in a different post is the lack of hardened exhaust seats in the 291 heads unless I get them replaced. Is it really worth the extra .5 in the ratio?

Increase in compression maybe 10hp, 291's are notorious for pinging under load with lower octane. Some guys around here swear by a little groove to stop the pinging.

well then I guess i am going to use the 090's and save the 291's for the 390 project where they came from unless I spring for edelbrock heads on that one.

Holy S*it that about 950 mile drive for me. I guess I could fly in and rent a ride. I assume the hotels are booked by now. Is Davenport the best place to fly into? They have an airport there?
I would love to come. I am going to a Scrambler ride in Oak Ridge Virginia the next weekend ( 9 /18 to 9 /20 ).
Would love to come out and meet some of the Bulltear crew as well as forum members that have been so helpful.....

Duluth is the wedding in November but the AMC nats is near Davenport. Joe I think the best bet is to fly down and let us take care of you!

I'd be willing to pick you up at Davenport if you fly in. I'll be in Cordova early Friday morning (12th) and stay thru the 13th. It's just a little over 2 hours from my house.

There is no direct flight there, it's Chicago then Davenport. I most likely will rent a car. I am concerned about getting a room if this is a mational event I am sure they are booked.
