looking at my options fr the buildup of my AMC 360...
what I have to work with is the AMC 360 from a 1984 grand wagoneer...
right now it's beating away in my CJ-5 with some no-name full length headers with true dual exhaust. Edelbrock performer intake, edelbrock 600CFM carb, and an ebay HEI (vac advance is on the non-ported side) as well as Bulltears Nickel plated timing cover with HRC oil pump gears & SS midplate...
plans for future are as follows..
the CJ is undertaking a knife.. the frame is being replaced with a TDK CJ-5 frame. with bumpers already installed. the suspension will be a 3link/rear leaf hybrid. with my 360/t18/D20 combo sitting in the middle driving scout II D44's (4.10's or 4.56's) with 35's & 4 wheel discs.
question is with all this work what to do to the 360? I want some more power out if it.. so far it's been great.. with the edelbrock offroad needle kit I can run at fairly steep angles. & has some nice torque in combination with the compund T18a's 6.32 first & 7.04:1 reverse.. even with 3.73s in the axles with 32's it goes nice & slow at idle..
so far all I've been thinking about is upgrading the heads (edelbrock performer aluminum heads), maybe a lumpier cam (RV cam), and FI!! as well as getting rid of the dual exhaust.. thinking shorty headers then bending the pipe under the front of the oil pan to the drivers side for a single exhaust out the rear drivers side..
what FI setup should I be looking into TBI? edelbrocks FI setup, as for shorty headers I don't know who makes good stuff, nor wether I should get ceramic coated or go with simple painted headers. I am in Maine so corrosion is a factor but would like to keep it looking new-ish..
as well as all this stuff I'm looking at having the block cleaned & machined .030 over, & the crank micropolished with new pistons & rings, seals, bearings..... yadda yadda... as well as putting in an oil cooler & relocating the filter.. the mechanical fan will be deleted for a taurus fan setup.
are there any AMC larger capacity oil pans out there? all I can find are stock replacements...... or stock ones with a tiny skid tacked on...
