Whats the best offroad AMC 360 Cam?

If someone could just give me some suggestions on a good cam for the woods with a lopy ldle that would greatly help. Im building a 360 thats goin in a CJ-5 With 37in buckshots and im goin to be in the woods alot but i like to run in the local mudsling every year and i need a good cam both for the woods and the mudsling. Im goin to run the hi compression 291 casting heads and flat top pistons maybe roller rockers and edelbrock intake and carb and 4.27 gears for drivetrain. So can anyone help me? Thanks Ashton.

a good cam for the mud run wont be so hot in the woods you give up low end torque for high rpm power. Depending on your max rpm when mudding I would pick a cam with the widest power range with a peak around your max rpm. the cam I have is built for idle to 4000rpm you might need one that runs 1500/2000-6000rpm.
engle racing makes one that works from 1500-5500rpm for a 9:1 compression motor and has a slightly lopey idle.

i have a comp cam that really comes on at 1800rpms and it was to much for me playing around in the woods and climbing over some rock....hill climbing it was good second gear and bring those rpms up...but next time ill get something a little smaller...something around 1000 rpms

I know alot of people will tell horror stories about Summit cams but I really like the K8600. Barelly noticeable lopey idle and kicks in right around 1000 rpm's. Had a Crane that kicked in around 2000 rpm's it was not ideal for off-road.

I'm running an Edelbrock Performer cam in my 360, factory pistons, with 291 heads (polished and ported) and rocker rollers. Fed by Howell EFI thru a Performer Manifold, stock free flow exhaust manifolds (smog test), and a single 3" exhaust. I also have 4.27 gears and 37" MT/Rs. I find that the 4.27s were plenty for 35" tires, but not quite enough for 37s. With a T-18 and Dana 300, I could sit and spin all 4 at idle while rock crawling with the 35s, but I have to throttle a bit with the 37s. I have a set of 4.88s waiting to go in soon. Bob tufcj

Why do you want a lopey idle? Auditory bling? A lopey idle means the engine doesn't LIKE to idle. Sounds "fast" because fast cars have cams made for high revs and run like ass at idle. Poor choice for chugging through the woods.
