what size stahll convertor to use

i am pulling the 304 out of my cj and replacing it with a 360 i am running a 727 with a b&M shift kit and 4:10 gears with 35 inch tires in my cj what size stahl convertor should i use? also how can i tell whether i need lock up or not im not sure what year the trans is?

I don't think any of the 727s used lockup converters, that was the 998/999. What are you using the Jeep for? Mud bog, rock crawling, trail riding, daily driver? How you use it will make a difference on what converter you use. Bob tufcj

it will be driven on and off road and i run rocks and mud that is why i am trying to figure it out. i dont want to go to high or to low . also where is a place with good products at a good price

Stock stahl should be around 1800.

If you're running the 360 stock, stick with a stock converter. If you have a cam that moves the power band up in the RPM range, then go with a stall speed that puts the engine in its power band. If your cam makes power from 2500-5500, then you would want at least a 2500 stall converter. Remember that below the stall speed, the converter is slipping, and therefore creating LOTS of heat. The higher your stall, the more heat you create. Make sure you add a trans cooler that's up to the task. Bob tufcj

Bob? No matter what the converter will create heat, understand that part (work=heat). But if I understand your statement above, it creates more heat below than above the stall speed??
