JMSII I need to install new front speakers in my CJ. I don't want to cut the dash, and I want the new speakers to mount to the existing studs on the back of the dash. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the stock speaker size is 5 1/4 - right? (Before somebody tells me to just go out and look under my dash understand that I have factory A/C, so looking is a pain.) Anybody have any recommendations for a decent speaker that will fit without major modifications? Thanks!
tufcj My early CJ only has one speaker (beside the glove box). I have one of these mounted on the hump, forward of the shifter. I believe the factory speaker is smaller than 5 1/4", more like 4 1/2". Lots of speakers if you search eBay. http://www.tuffyproducts.com/p-134-065-dual-speaker-security-box.aspx Bob tufcj
Mudrat Something similar to what Bob has, but from JCWitney. comes with 60W 5-1/4 speakers. For the dash, I think your right with the 5-1/4" ones, but stock wouldn't handle much power.
Ibby I picked up the box (without speakers) that Mudrat linked to for my CJ. I bought my own 5 1/4 speakers for it. I got Panasonic marine speakers since I leave the top off half the year. They sound wicked and I don't have to worry if they get wet. The box is plastic and would be easy to rip out if anyone made an effort. The Tuffy one looks a lot beefier.
