Sorry if this has been discussed before, I did a search and really didn't come up with much.
Are the Edelbrock heads really worth it? I have seen mixed opinions on the forums (The AMCForum, etc) about whether these are really flow that much better than stock. I am building a 360 soon and want to make a decision on what pistons to get. With the Edelbrock heads the chambers are smaller so stock cast units go up to 9.5 to 1 (a plus), but if I use the 58cc heads, I need to find custom pistions to get the CR up - big coins there as well! Building and porting heads is not cheap either, wondering if they are not worth the money to get new heads without the hassel, just worried about running the aluminum. 111!!!
This 360 will go in a mostly street driven CJ5(wifes toy, nice to be married to a woman that loves Jeeps! :? ), trailing once a month. I also have a 401 I am dropping in my CJ7, same use, same questions about the heads...
Thanks in advance foir your opinions!!

Most times they are worth it. I have seen the official flow testing on a set and they will make about 70 more hp out of the box than a stock head. Throw a few dollars at porting and slightly larger valves and you have a set of heads capable of supporting 600+ horsepower. I think if you have a budget for them they are definately worth it but if they arent in the budget their is alot you can do with steelies.

Both about the same cost? Street/off-road use. Which would be better? Why? Any opinions?

Thanks for the information. Just need to decide if its worther the $$$ for me.
Thanks!
EDIT: MC, How much to build a set of cast heads with all the good stuff??

It all depends on what you want. You will spend more $$ porting the cast heads but for springs, valves (slightly larger), retainers and cups you could be looking at around $600+

For both or each?? And I assume I must send you the cores, correct?
Sorry for all the questions..
Thanks!

Their are plenty of heads here...just let me know what you need.

M.C. Wouldnt aluminum heads cool better and also support a little bit more compression then the cast iron heads?
jeepsr4ever
They definately cool better and will need alittle more compression to make the same power due to the heat loss. I am not sure if I could calculate the amount of compression needed to make the same power (it may be small)

Thats good information. I knew that they would take more CR without issues, but I did not know that you NEED more CR to make the same power with aluminum. :-|
Thanks!
