New problem with the 360!!!

Man, every time I fix one thing, something else goes bad! Isn't that the way it always is! Thought I had all the bugs out of my Grand Wagoneer until I drove it to work today. I was driving and it started making these hesitations. I figured my carb was acting up. Then it just died, suddenly, no stumbling, just bam! Dead at 50 mph. Coasted onto a side street and let it sit because I had to be at work. Went by after work and gave it a try. It will turn over but nothing! When I push on the carb throttle I can here fuel squirt, so it seems like its getting gas. After a few tries it cranked up. Drove it home, but after a few miles it suddenly died again, but turned right back over in just a second as I was cruising. ??? Haven't had time to mess with it yet, but I'm thinking maybe something with the ignition system (ignition box, coil, distributer?). It's an AMC360 with MSD 6A Ignition, Accel super stock coil, MSD billet distributer, Edelbrock performer series carb (#1406), Edelbrock intake and cam, headman headers. Any first thoughts???

I went threw a coil or 2 with my MSD 6AL, last time it was the pick-up coil in the dissy (MSD billet) Next time it happens disconnect the dissy wires at the connector (green and violet) use a small jumper wire and jump the green and violet wires on the ignition side...you should get a spark every time you jump the wire. If you do, then most likely it is the pick-up coil in the dissy. If not then it may be the ignition coil itself or the MSD box. I now carry a small wire and extra coil with me at all times. P.S. the dissy has to come out and all the way apart to remove the pick-up coil. I epoxied the 2 screws holding it on for next time so the dissy can stay in the motor. :mrgreen:

Thanks or the info. Can I use a multimeter on the wires, and if so, what volts should I be getting? It started up this morning so I feel like I can't really trouble shoot until it dies again. I jumped the green and violet wires and got no spark, but a weird chirping noise? Sounded like it was coming from the Accel coil, not the dizzy? Only made the chirp when I first touched the wires or puled them apart. Put a multimeter on the wire and got about 2.4 v (key turned to on position). Normal??? Also, where's a good place to pick up a spare pick up coil for my dizzy? I'll probably go ahead and get one just in case.

The chirping sound is probably coming from the MSD box...mine does the same thing, just the capacitors discharging.

I ordered a pick coil from Checker Motors in my town...but after they couldn't find it when it came in I called summit racing and had it a few days later.

Make sure you aren't leaking a spark around the coil and or wires. Use really good wires 8mm or better.

This is for triggering it with the white wire...you shouldn't be using the white wire with the MSD Dissy. But it will do the same thing jumping the Green and violet wires.
