727 time

OK, I have a couple 727's sitting outside. Time do to something with one of them. One has a cracked bell housing - no prob on getting it tigged up. Jack said it ran when he pulled it out :-| I have the rebuild book, but my questions: 1 - how hard is it REALLY to rebuild a 727 tranny? 2 - can it be done with 1.5 hands (surgery coming up, I'll be OOC for about a month) or should I get COTTMANS or AAMCO? 3 - I want to put the firmer shift kit in it, where can I find the most reliable set up to install? Frank - you'd better be ready to put this M/F in when I get there!!!!

I think trick shift makes kits or one of the companies that make performance tranny parts. all they are is a set of springs for the valves in the valvebody and a drill bit with template to drill out oil passages in the valvebody.

I wouldnt mess with it Pat if you have never rebuilt a tranny. I would rebuild the one without the cracked bellhousing. Tell your guys if they need any parts you have a good core.

I am kind of curious also.. I have a 727 That I need to go through.. (I am kinda thinking about putting it in the J-10).. Really how tough is it.. say, more complicated than rebuilding an engine? :-|

I'm thinking the same way - I only have one arm after about 30-40 minutes work. I even had to have my daughters boyfriend bring in the second head out of the truck.., This gett'n old shit SUCKS!!!!

find the nearest tech school. they usually do the work for free you only pay for the parts and theyre supervised by ASE mechanics.
