AMC 401 that had a TH400. Guy wants to put a GW AMC TF727 behind the 401.
when i did mine 10 years ago, i started witha 77 chief that had a TH400/QT, i removed the TH400/QT, i had a 86 GW TF727 with a 208 on the back of it, i bought a 73 javelin 727/401 flex plate from napa and a new torque converter ground the brass th400 centering bushing out of the end of the crank. bolted it together, hooked a 80-89 GW the kick down cable up and drove the crap out of it.
but he seems to think that he needs a spacer between the crank and the flex plate. did i miss or forget something.
will someone detail this conversion out and i'll email teh guy the link so he can get his conversion done right

I dont like giving out bad info so i want to make sure im not screwing this up

Yes we have lots of flexplates. The spacer he refers to may be the one that came in the early 67-72 model th400's with the nailhead pattern. No spacer is needed for a AMC 727 though.

so just to be sure if he has a
1980-89 TF727 from an amc power FSJ
a 1973 Javelin TF727 to 401 Flexplate from bulltear
a new generic TF727 torque converter
He can reuse a 1973-1986 AMC V-8 starter
He can reuse his engine plate
he can re-use his crank bolts
he'll need a cross-member
he'll need to get the kick down cable from a 80-89 GW with 360 /TF727
He should be ready to go.

Tell him to get a LOKAR kickdown...much better to setup than the factory unit.
