Does anybody know if a chevy 350 will bolt up to a Torqueflight 727 tranny? Might have a new project in the works.

Not without an adapter no. TF727 = Chrysler Tranny... was used by AMC over the years as well. But none that I know of have a Chevy Pattern on them. -Dave

This may be done somehow cause the 904/998 is supposedly popular for use in drag racing for use in place of a powerglide since it has 3 gears vs. the 2 of the 'glide, yet it still light and efficient. There was a magazine article about it somehwere. Dont remeber how they did it, but they did mention that the AMC pattern was kinda close to the Chev pattern. Article was titled "904 versus the World" I think. Maybe search the web for that title ? :-|

Advance Adapters makes a kit to put the AMC bolt patterned 904/998/727 behind a Chevy motor.

Some of the 904s were behind the 4 cylinder. Those have a GM pattern. My friend has a 904 behind a Northstar V8, using no adapters.

Only behind the GM 150 "Iron Duke" 4 cylinder that AMC sourced from GM. Not the AMC 151 4 cylinder. 2 different engines, 2 different bolt patterns. The same would hold true for some of the XJs from 1987 and 1988 that used the GM 4.3. I don't know what trans they used behind those. Bob tufcj

The 904 build up article is from CarCraft June 1998 and shows an adpater plate being used as mentioned.

That's right, as mentioned AMC's with the Iron Duke 4 cyl had 904's with a SBC bolt pattern bell housing.
Those gotta be few and far between and difficult to find, but would be "slick".

The XJ's were 2.8 GM not the 4.3 not SB chev pattern.

That's right, they were the wimpy 2.8 . Disregard anything about the 4.3, the 2 did have different bolt patterns. Bob tufcj

The early Chev 4 cyls had the 90 degree GM pattern and 904 (not 727, even in Postal DJs AFAIK). When Jeep went to the AMC 4 cyl and 2.8L V6, they used the 60 degree pattern wjich is the same as Northstar. CJ guys want the 4 cyl with 90 pattern 904 for V8 swaps so they are hard to come by. There are quite a few different 904 and 727 trans behind various motors (various Mitsubishi, including Montero and D50 diesels, VW 4 & 5 cyl diesels)
