ironman_gq I just got done pulling an engine out of an old Willys flatfender and everything went smooth until it was time to actually lift the engine out. I couldnt figure out why it was hung up until I noticed a cable running from the side of the plate that sits behind the flywheel to the crossmember :(: :(: :(: . I can find no reason for this cable other than for aligning the motor and tranny during assembly. Does anyone know what this cable is for?
tufcj The rubber mounts were very soft. I think it was to keep the engine from shifting forward and letting the fan hit the radiator. Bob tufcj
ironman_gq It truly sucked. we could barley fit a wrench in to get the nut on the back side and the threads were about 3 inches long and the wrench could only go about a quarter swing
ironman_gq Speaking of this old engine does anyone know where to find rebuild kits for it are. Its the "Go Devil" L head engine.
tufcj When they were built at the factory, engine and trans were set in the frame before the body was dropped on. Probably plenty of room without the body. http://www.kanter.com/wiln.html http://www.northstarwillys.com/engine.htm Bob tufcj
