81 CJ5 AMC 360. Like so many before me have already realized, I am tired of having my Ford control module fail unexpectedly, especialy while out wheel'n. (and all the associated wiring is a mess to diagnose) Is the HEI really a 1 wire hookup? (2 if you count the tac) The hot wire runs from the positive side of the battery or the hot side of the starter solonoid? Ready to buy, just wanted to be sure before I layout the cash. :?

Actually, you use the wire that is currently on the + post of your coil. The wire needs to be switched with the key (power only in the on and start positions). All the other wiring for the ignition ECU box and distributor can be eliminated.
If you have a tach lead it should go to the - post of your coil, that lead goes to the tach lead on the HEI cap.

it really is one wire hookup. all you need is a wire that is hot only when the key is on or in start.

doesnt take much just use whatever was running to the coil in the stock setup.
