Do I have to remove my transmission to change my rear main seal, I can drop the oil pan just fine if I can remember. I got a leak when the engine is hot, or after I turn off the car. I'm about ready to have someone else take care of it because If I can remember right I changed the oil pan gasket like twice and I know little about the rear main

You can just drop the pan if it's a Jeep. Seems to me that I had to lift the engine a bit and loosen a motor mount from the block to get the pan by. In a car, you have to drop the crossmember, or remove the engine.
Remove the rear main bearing cap, you have to slide the top half around the journal. Oil the new seals well, and be sure to face the top half the right direction (lip in).
I use Permatex trim adhesive to glue the pan gasket to the block, a small dab of RTV where the sides touch the front/rear rubber seals.
Not difficult, just time consuming.
