Have 76 j10 with 360. Here in nc it gets pretty warm in the summer. In warm weather temp gauge goes to 210 and a little above. Now that the weather is cooler it will not get hot enough to open thermostat. any ideas?
May the wind be in your face and the sun at your back.

My thought is that the stat is stuck open causing both issues.

Or you could possibly be running without a thermostat. Replace it with a 180 degree thermostat.

Thanks for the help. Will try this and see if this helps.

Very possable also, assumed he'd know if it had no stat in it. #-o

in Michigan when it gets cold i run with my fan off till it gets to 200 (i have it on a manual switch) otherwise I'd get to where i'm going and never get it hot enough for heat.

Fact is stranger than fiction. Checked stat and was fine not stuck. On the way to get 180 stat engine back fired. Checked timing chain for play, needed chain set. Replaced chain set. All is fine. Somehow, seems to have been a timing problem. Can't figure out the cold temp. part but will accept as a freak occurrence.
Thanks for the help. All good advice.

that they are. every time you fix one gremlin another one seems to find a new home under the hood and you get to chase that one off too.

That or everytime you leave the house, you dont know if your driving back or getting a tow.

I don't know about that.
I've come to trust my Jeep to get me home. Only ONCE in nearly 30 years and 170,000 miles has my Jeep come home on a hook. Dropped a valve at 70 MPH on the highway. I drove it 4-5 miles after the valve let loose to get it to the next exit ramp. Once off the ramp, it died and wouldn't restart. I've bent axles and frame, broken springs, even spun a AMC20 hub (tire fell off), but always managed to McGyver things well enough to get home under it's own power.

What has happened to my CJ while away from home.....
Lets see, 4 or so u joints, twice I fixed it in the middle of the road, twice I was just too pissed.
Blown heater core while at school. Drove it home
Leaking rear passenger side brake cylinder noticed at a gas station 50 miles from my house. Drove it home
I door flew open while driving on the freeway, the door latch broke. Used my simpson 5 point harness and attached the door to me so I could get home
lately I blew my power steering hose, which I fixed. Towed from work.

I blew 6 steering lines :(: in my driveway and garage during the course of 3 days :lo1l: Its amazing how thick powersteering fluid gets when it -30 for a week. couldnt flow fast enough and it kept blowing out the return line on startup. I got pretty good at fixing it and bleeding the system out before my hands went numb.

Well....lets see.....honestly 25 u-joints in the past year and a half with my CJ-5.......drivetrain angles, axle wrap, junst driveshafts, and junk yokes..........bent and twisted an AMC 20......3 driveshafts, dist gear, front R&P, hubs, transmission and trans to tcase adapters (when it had chevy drivetrain)..Wheel bearings.......the list goes on and on and after the chevy junk broke i got fed up with it....sunk 5k into my 304, rebuilt a t-18 and went spring under with new springs and a shit ton of other goodies  now i'll trust that pig anywhere as long as i have enough cash for gas 8)
