christd Hello everyone. I am having a bit of trouble diagnosing this one so I thought I would see what y'all thought. I went out to take a ride in my CJ the other night and it would not fire up. Today I go out to look and it seems I am not getting any fuel to the carb. I have checked to make sure I have gas and I do. I checked the fuel pump and it is getting suction (I don't know how hard it should be pulling though). It will fire up and run for a bit if I pour gas in the carb, but I still don't get gas to the engine. I am checking later today to see if I have a clog in the fuel line somewhere, but if anyone has any other suggestions I would appreciate it. Thanks Chris -74CJ5 w/ 304
jeepsr4ever First thing I would do is check to see if the fuel pump is pouring fuel into the crank case by smelling the oil. You could have a bum fuel pump
christd Thanks for the advice, I smelled the oil and it has a definite gas smell. I have a new pump ordered and should know by tomorrow if that was it or not. Thanks again.
ironman_gq i would check the filter and the carb inlet. many have a mesh screen to filter out large pieces of debris and they can get clogged.
christd Alright, I got the fuel pump this afternoon and changed my oil and filter and the CJ is back up and running. Thanks again for the help. Greatly appreciated.
