engine temp??

what does everyones engines run at..at full temp...i think mine runs a little warm but im not sure...today in almost 100 degree weather it ran at 190 down the highway....and will sometimes creep just a little higher in traffic.....not sure if this is good or not...i do plan on buying some electric fans and getting rid of that damn flex fan i have on there

sounds about right to me, and an a electric fan can only help. i have a 401 and i'm running electric fans part #575 flex-a-lite, and my temp on hwy is about 180-190 and in traffic is at 190-200, depending on traffic.

You're good. Remember, water boils at 212F, and even higher, when under pressure. Mine runs at 180 - 190 all day long even in the heat. (460 ford with factory 1978 radiator, 180F stat, mechanical Flex-a-lite fan and no fan clutch)

And even higher with antifreeze in it. My Vette hits 235 to 240 in traffic in hot weather. The high side of the fan doesn't even kick in til 235.

Our new 401 usually runs about 180 to 190, but hits 210 on occasions on really hot muggy days when cruising down the highway. It actually runs cooler in traffic at low speeds.

Liquids under pressure have a higher boiling point than at atmospheric pressure. That's why nuclear power plants seem to always be springing a leak...their cooling systems are under high pressure. No foolin.

My Jeep would kill for 190. I run an aluminum crossflow radiator, a FlowKooler pump, and a flex fan (which did help over the clutched fan). The thermostat is a high flow 180 degree. It runs about 200-210 when crawling on the trails. I get it on the street and it will creep up to around 220-225. It's been doing that since I put the 360 in 10 years ago. The gauge is mechanical and accurate. Temp on the AMC is taken at the return to the radiator , an infrared scan at the lower hose does show about a 170-180 degree return temp. Sounds hot, but hasn't caused any damage so far. 50/50 water/antifreeze boils around 235, add about 3 degrees for each PSI the cap adds, with a 15 LB cap you won't boil till around 265. Bob tufcj
