Lifter size?

A few months back i replaced all the lifters on my 401. Just recently i started tearing the motor down because of a trashed cam lobe/lifter. I happened to notice something interesting. I saved a few of the old lifters when i put in the new ones and just noticed there is a size difference between the old and the new. The old ones measured exactly 1 7/8"....the newer ones are slightly shorter at about 1 13/16...maybe a little taller, but definately shorter then the others. So...what is the proper lifter size? Or does that tiny discrepancy even matter? (figure difference taken up by the hydrolics of the lifter itself) Sorry for the stupyd questions, but this is the kind of thing that keeps me up at nights :razz:

Is the distance between the top of the lifter and the pushrod seat the same? It's possible the new ones just have less of a crown to save weight?

Looks like the seats are the same height, hadnt thought to check that, just different manufactures i guess. i should be slapped in the forhead with a big Retard sticker for that one #-o ..... :!:
