valve cover

I'm looking to replace my valve cover. i have a 87 wrangler 258 cid. I have the five flange nuts on the driver side and the 3. 1/4 20 bolts on the pass side and one 1/4 20 on the back and one on the front. I see some Aluminum valve covers out on the market . but i'm not wild about drilling and taping the head. I was wondering what some of you AMC fans have done to get around the oil leak problem. thanks chris

On your motor you shouldnt have to drill and tap if you have bolts on the flange.

Actually some of the new valve covers make you drill and tap ... remember your FL trip a couple years ago on that "individuals" Jeep and I got the panic call for a valve cover that would fit??? #-o

I have found a valve cover made by PML.
it looks like they have four different mounting styles.
it has the locater pins and a lip for the flanged nuts to hold down the drivers side. the only thing i don't like is the design on the top of the cover.

I agree, I don't care for that design either. Plus, it's almost twice as expensive as most. Usually you only end up not having to drill any holes and only having to tap two holes. It's really not a big project.

I Had PM'd him and he sent me the link. It looks like all i would have to do is 5/16 Bottom tap the two locater holes on the driver side. I don't have the studed Rocker arm bridges. it may be worth looking into. His article was enough for me to understand the drilling and taping in the instruction. :-| Thanks for your replys. i will let you know what i come up with. Ill be back, this jeep has a lot of little issues.

That's good, because I didn't like the part where mtm filed the studs he cut off while still on the engine. He should have taken them off.

I was lucky when I did ours, I had another parts engine that I could rob some studless bridges off of.

Hell, i installed a 4.0 head on my old 258 just to get away from the plastic valve cover :mrgreen:

I like the color red and the jeep is red. I went and bought all the hardwear like the 5/6,18 bottom tap and the screws.

i will install it when i get the radiator. that way i only have to drain
the coolant once.
