1987 Wagoneer at a yard, 95,000 miles, AMC 360, runs,
what's the Motor Worth complete ?
$300 and they pull it ?
Would it be a Turbo 400 tranny ?
Diff flexplate than 727 ?
Mitsu or Old Style Starter ?
What Ignition & Dizzy would it have ?
Considering since the new motor wiped a cam lobe.
I just want to drive the car man.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune.
$300 pulled ain't bad. Trans would be a 727, they stopped using the TH400 in 79. The 2 flex plates are different.
I believe it would still have the AMC style starter.
Ignition would be the MotorCraft electronic.
I know how you feel about driving it. I finished the interior on mine over last weekend (except for the radio). I just have a little detail work under the hood to finish, and get it insured again. Hopefully taking it's maiden voyage this weekend.
You know it's always something. I started mine the other night, and had oil dripping off the filter after a couple of minutes running. Turned out the oil pressure sender was leaking around the crimp. Luckily it was just a $5 fix.

Went and looked at it :idea:
It's a 2 barrel, and yep the grey dizzy cap and cast aluminum ignition box,
looked like the old style AMC Starter and had 360 in block under the mounts,
and the Coverter cover plate looks like the 727 I have.
It's in a Black '87 Grand Wagoneer 4x4 without wheels on it
and the $300 is just the motor with all accessories, doesn't include the tranny.

Another yard here in Cincy said the have a couple for $125
but you have to unbolt it and they'll pull it out and put in truck
but they couldn't tell me what displacement or year or miles.
Might go look tomorrow, but how do you safely work under a car
in a junkyard on the ground on your back to get it unhooked ?
What ? do you drop the driveshaft and trans crossmember and motor mounts
and have'em pull it, and seperate'em after they're out as a pair ?

Too bad you arent near to us I have a forged piston AMC 360 that was internally balanced. I am asking $450 for the shortblock.

I've pulled several junkyard engines. It's not that bad. Hoses and wiring get cut. If you don't want the tranny, you can get the top 4 tranny bolts from the top, go underneath for the lower 2, the motor mounts, tranny inspection cover and starter. You can pull the converter bolts if they're easy to get to, otherwise just pull the converter with the engine. A cordless sawzall makes short work of the exhaust.
I have taken a high lift jack, and stacked tires under the frame of vehicles without tires or axles. A yard by me used to sell a "core engine" (guaranteed rebuildable but nothing more) for $75. I got three 401s out of that yard before someone made a deal to get them before they ever hit the yard.
They have a prep area where they drain all fuel and fluids from all the cars. Whenever a Wagoneer comes thru with a 401, they call this guy, he gets them with his tow truck, takes them to his shop and pulls the engine, then brings the shell back. I see him selling them on ebay once in a while. Kinda sucks for the rest of us.
