darwin where you at?
What in the hell is this reply for? Are you trying to get at me? If so take your worthless comments elsewhere.
allow me to retort.
i guess i should have used several  emoticons. first, i'm shocked that the engine is running that decent on 7 cylinders. second, shocked that anyone would not use the vast info about the amc v8s, especially the oiling, on this board to understand the engine before causing a major internal oil leak by pulling out a lifter or two. third, amazed that the engine ain't knocking like crazy on the video with the lifter(s) out. the darwin comment was just a little ribbing, meaning the same that others have said just more colorful words.
anyway, i have a theory why the engine hasn't grenaded yet. a block in the lifter oil passages for #1 cyl. caused the cam to grind itself flat because of lack of oil. now the block in the passage is the only thing saving the mains and rods.
so you're planning on a 401 swap using the 360 as a core. let me guess your plan. go the local flaps and order a 401. when it comes in turn in your 360 for the credit. now if the parts jockey misses the big 360 on the side instead of 401 and issues you credit, i guarontee the engine company won't when they get it. next the engine company will not issue credit to the flaps because the engine people aren't gonna lose money. so the flaps will do one of two things. either try to get a hold of you to get the core charge back (if the do, great) or expense it out. now, if the flaps is locally owned, you're just hurting your local economy and helping the big auto-parts boys put them out of business because locally owned flaps can't mess with their prices much. now if its a nationwide flaps, to keep showing a profit to keep the stock holders happy, the big boys are gonna rise prices across the board. yeah, maybe just a couple of cents per item but still. so now you're effecting everyone. me, personally, double; as i own a small auto shop. due to the cutthroat nature of small business auto repair, higher prices means less profits. so now who's out to get at who.
karma will always get ya. that is all.
