93dps 79 304, 60 psi oil pressure ,it started blowing oil out of the dipstick and blowing the oil fill cap off.this is something new it just started .i have an edelbrock intake with no pcv.any ideas what is causing this and how to stop it????
jeepsr4ever PCV is located in the back of the intake where a large 7/8 opening is located. If you are running a tunnel ram or another acient edelbrock perofrmance intake you may need to add breathers to your valve covers.
tufcj It's doing it because there is no PCV. You need to reconnect it if you just plugged it off, or add some additional breathers to the valve covers. Bob tufcj
93dps i was wrong there is a pcv on the back of the intake going to a port on the carb.i took it off cleaned and blew through it ,looks like its working.this problem started on a long run at about 2800 rpms.it now pushes oil out the dipstick just riding around town.the motor has 15" of vacum at idle.the oil fill tube has a vented cap that is also hooked to the air cleaner.any ideas?
runnamuck all within ~10%, head gas. shouldn't be a problem. fresh rebuild or got some miles. numbers seem a little low for a fresh rebuild. can you do a leak down test? any smoke? i'm thinking rings.
93dps not sure exactly how many miles on motor.no smoke.problem isnt as bad as it was the other day only blows a little out at hiway speeds now.when i pull the pcv out there is a bit of pressure coming out of the intake.nothing coming out of oil fill tube??
ironman_gq had the same problem on a 258 we blew over a quart out in 15 miles at 30mph and we had vents on the valve cover. the engine ran fairly well but when we rebuilt it we found that the problem was due to excessively worn rings and cylinders. it took .040 to clean up. The engine had an obvious blowby problem that no amount of venting would correct. I would try to hook the PCV to the carb and draw vacuum from the crankcase as it seems that normal venting isnt enough.
82Waggy 93dps wrote125-140 psi on each cylinder??? I agree with the rest, not low enough to indicate blown head gasket. Look to excessive ring blow by, or too much oil in the crankcase  .
