QT chain replacement

Well as it seems now, I am going to have to run the QT this year. That means no truck pulls...unless someone has another low range unit for me :help: and a way to beef them up. [-o< So that means maybe I could get some 1/8 mile drag times...if I replace the chain. I want a good chain, stronger than stock if possible. I heard Crown has them? I have a NAPA or National Bushing, with an 'inside guy' that gets me better $ for parts here in town. :? Any suggestions on brand of chain? Anything else to look for or beef up? I can't let these guys around town beat me at a light because I can only give it a quarter throttle now :smile:.....I have a rep to keep :lo1l: Also the emergency lock doesn't work...could it be just due to low of vaccum? I have around 5" at idle and max of 12" to 15" If the vacuum-control diaphragm is bad...has anybody tried to switch it to cable control? Hey, how about electronic? Oh boy, I can't wait to get all dirty in the driveway this year. I miss my garage...I guess some women really don't like Jeeps. :argue: LOL

DO NOT get a chain from Crown; if it's anything like the manual tailgate cranks they had for the FSJs, the chain is probably a POS Chinese product. Go to BJ's Offroad for a Morse brand chain. I used a Cloyes when I replaced mine a couple years ago and am pumping 350hp through it with no ill effects in 10K miles. NAPA should be able to get you the Morse or Cloyes chain too. As for the e-drive diaphragm; check to see if you have vac at the switch. If so, then the diaphragm may be ruptured. Another product that can be bought at BJ's. I wouldn't try to do any sand drags or pulls until that is fixed. Trying to put too much power through the QT without the e-drive locked puts a lot of stress on the clutch cones and will smoke them in short order. I would look for a low range over at the IFSJA; someone should be able to hook you up.

Thanks for the chain brand ideas...I will check around.

I have a NP205 for the truck...but I have to change the tail shaft out of the TH400 and switch input gears on the NP205 for the TH400 because it is for a TH350. That is the set-up I will run for the truck pulls. But $ limit me to wait until maybe next year for the NP205 install.

That being said a new chain and another low range unit would be needed. I smoked my only low range unit at the first pull I used it at.

The plate that drops into the back broke and spun in the case. I assume that it just had to much torque and/or weight that I was pulling. I also assume that another unit would do the same at a truck pull. Pulling RPM will be around 5500RPM in 1st gear...maybe that is too much RPM for the unit also?

any thoughts?

I think the transfer case with a new chain will hold for a few pulls...but the low range unit is the weak link I believe.

Does anyone now a way to beef them up? Maybe they just won't handle a truck pull?

It's kinda embarrassing to be pulled off the track when the truck doesn't move. :oops:
