Randall Bowman McCorkle, 64, died on Saturday, March 10, 2007, at St. Francis Hospital, after a brief battle with cancer.
Randy was born in Greenville, S.C., a son of the late Robert Bowman and Daisy Waits McCorkle. He was a graduate of Georgia Military Academy and attended Clemson University. He owned and operated Carolina Petroleum Equipment. Randy was an American Motors drag racing pioneer and an active drag racer up until his death. Randy held national championship titles and was effectively known as "Mr. 4-speed."
Surviving are three sons, Bo McCorkle of Mauldin, Stephen McCorkle of Charleston and Willy Mullikin of Greenville; his twin brother, Robert McCorkle of Greenville; three sisters, Judy Troup of Myrtle Beach, Mary Bill Suddeth of Salem and Dell Lawrence of Salsibury, N.C.; nephews and nieces, Jody, Joel, Robby, Ryan, Rebecca, Mary Kathryn and Ashley; and a special friend, Bobby Jane Traylor of Clemson. He was predeceased by his lifelong Labrador retriever companion, Daisy.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 18, in the Mausoleum Chapel at Greenville Memorial Gardens, with a graveside service following at 2:30.
The family wishes to extend a very special thank you for the extraordinary care provided by the ER personnel and the 7th floor nursing staff at St. Francis Hospital.
