stick a bump stick in her, set of bearings (maybe a few rings) and leave her loose. it'll supprise you :lo1l:

Yes, yes, that WAS a cam lobe...
One of the sources of the problem is that whoever had built the motor had put in a high lift, high rev cam with stock valvesprings. (which the machine shop informed me had been bottoming out.) #-o
The motor is now happy, having been bored .030 over, line honed, iron heads ported, two new valves, new springs, rockers and a cam that'll keep all it's big torque down where a trail machine likes it.
