How much hp will I make & exhaust ideas for my yj w/360

Hey guys, me and my buddy are finishing up a 360 we've been working on and I'm curious to know about how much power it's going to make. It's a 360, 40 over, summit 8600 cam, performer intake, and the holley 670 truck avenger carb, with HEI distributer and a nice K&N open element. And also, we've been kicking around ideas for the exhaust, which componants to use and how to route it. I want good flow but I also want it to be drivable without setting off every car alarm on my block. So, stock manifolds, shorties or long tubes? And which is a better match H-pipe or X-pipe? How about mufflers, summit has them cheap and obviously there are some pricey ones too, I spent a lot of time and money on this project so I really want it to sound nice as well. How about side exit or rear exit? I'm looking for any ideas or experience anyone has. And thanks for all the great info here. Thanks for helping the newbie, Derek :t:

Duals on a Jeep are difficult due to the tight clearance between the t-case and frame rail. On my CJ, EFI 360, Edelbrock performer cam, stock bottom end w/mildly ported 291C heads. I'm putting out about 300-325 HP at the rear wheels. I went from full headers with turbo mufflers to stock manifolds with a full 3" single exhaust. I saw a slight gain in bottom end torque, and a barely noticeable drop in power over 5000 RPM. Mine is a rock crawler and seldom sees RPMs over 3000 anyway. I like the 3" single better, I guess I'm old enough that I don't want to yell to talk to my passenger anymore. The 3" Magnaflow muffler has a nice rumble without being obnoxious, and I can talk to my passenger or listen to the radio. Bob tufcj

duals work on a CJ if you use 2 1/4 inch pipe off the header. I have dual with long tube headers and two cherrybomb mufflers. I've got less that $400 in the whole system and its reasonably quiet inside but still sounds good.

Here's some links that have some pics and descriptions of some ways of running the exhaust. We couldn't run duals because of an anti-wrap bar being in the way on the passenger side, so we looped across above the t-case (3" body lift helped there) and went into a dual outlet glass pack turned backwards to make it a dual inlet, single outlet. Ours is the one posted by rwsr50.
