Motor/frame mounts on a CJ7

Anyone have any issues with the mounts on the frame of a cj7? I'm swapping in a 360 from a 258, some say one frame mount is different on the 360 vs the 258. Yet I have heard from a couple others (from a differnt board) that it should drop in w/o any issues. My other questions is, if I need new mounts, where is the best place to get them? I imagine they weld in?

the passenger side frame mount is the same....the driver side is a little diffrent....i would recommend buying the v8 mounts....i found mine at a local shop for 60 bucks.....

These mounts weld or bolt to the frame?

The only thing you can use is the part that bolts to the frame on the driver's side. The passenger side frame mount, the rubber/poly cushions, and the block mounts are all different. The frame mounts stay in the same position as they are for the 258 though, and bolt right up to existing the existing holes.

Watch Ebay. You can find them on there regularly. The CJ V8 frame mounts are getting harder to find though. Have to be from a CJ. Fullsize won't work. Do a Google. There is somebody making aftermarket ones now, I just forget who. Definitely get new cushions. They are readily available.

It's exactly as 1980_Cj7 said. The mounts need to be the specific CJ V-8 mounts. Wagoneer mounts won't work either.

I got my aftermarket set from www.mountainoffroad.com . Kind of pricey, but definitely worth the money if you're producing any kind of HP and torque.

Yes, MORE make some real nice aftermarket ones, but there are also aftermarket ones designed just like the factory ones.

Guess it depends on what you end up having to pay. If the prices are close, I'd go for the MORE's. But, do the MORE's bolt right up or do they need welded or different holes drilled? I don't know.

What we ended up doing is modifying our 258 passenger side mount. Fuzz graciously loaned a factory mount to copy off of. We had to work fast though becuz poor Fuzz was gettin pretty tired lyin under there holding up that engine of his, ha, ha. (The factory one is on the left.) We cut the face off the 258 mount and welded a new flat plate in its place.

The difference in the 258 mount and the V8 mounts is not only the cushion hole orientation, but there are also 2 "humps" on the edges of the face that the cushion sits on that hold the V8 cushion up and have it only bearing on the 2 humps instead of the entire face.

The M.O.R.E. mounts bolt on using the factory holes, no drilling, no welding. They use a urethane bushing very similar to a shackle bushing. They do transmit a little more engine vibration to the vehicle, but hey, it's a Jeep. With the low gearing in my Jeep I managed to break the driver side factory mount at least twice over the years (and I do have the factory torque mount under the trans). I've been very happy with the M.O.R.E. mounts, worth the money in my mind. Bob tufcj

Thanks for the help guys. I found them in my 4wd catalog (Pass side for $63 and Driver side for $45) and will probabally place an order for them this week. Thanks again. You have been very helpful. Rick

i dropped my motor in last night 360....and i had to move the passenger side mount over one hole and drill two new ones...in order for the mounts to line up right.....might want to look into that also.....

Bought some mounts of ebay from baseline4x4. Only paid $33 plus $16.95 for shipping. Got them today. Looking forward to getting the motor Friday!
