Fuel pump on a 360 & carb question

The 360 I have now has the fuel pump blocked off by a plate from the previous owner & I wanted to run a electric pump but I'm old school & just don't want to deal w/the potential problem on the trail/road etc.

Here is the set up, look @ the plate if U can see it, it's painted green :? :

Here is the Holley I'm going to run, it's a 600-700:

Here is the intake of which I don't know what kind, I know it's a Edelbrock but is it the performer or can U give me some details on this set up w/the carb:

W/this carb should I or do I need to run an electric fuel pump?
If I can get a mechanical pump, which one do I buy, one from AZ or do I need something more for the carb?
How much psi is required for this carb 600-700 cfm to function correctly?
Carb numbers-Holley, front bowl-11398, back bowl-1169?, horn where the air come in-4776-5 & under this number-2690, On the round part under the horn or air intake where the gasket would sit-5534-Bo.
I know these numbers probably do not mean anything but I am trying to give the most info I can.

I can't find the box it came in but I do remember it saying 600-700 CFM double pumper carb.

Thats a big ol carb on top of that small intake. The sp2p has half dollar size intake ports and was engineered with fuel economy in mind but fell short on every aspect and was discontinued. I would run a stock fuel pump and leave it at that. Carbs can be fed by either electric or mechanical fuel pumps it doesnt matter as long as it has 6-8psi fuel pressure. Nice primer ball you have there and nice paint job!

thanks, Ya, the primer ball was from the previous owner. I bought a Jeep for my daughter & it had this motor set up in it & the guy was running it. Her torn down his Jeep but never finished it but from what I have heard it ran well. I can pull the carb off & take a pic cause I don't remember the dollar size holes, I thought they were bigger. Do you think I should get a different carb? As for the intake, when U say it fell short on the engineering, what exactly do U mean. I'm gonna go pull it off & take I pic & post it. Thanks, Jim P.S. I do have (I think in stock) a stock 2bbl intake.

The ports are very small on the intake meaning it chokes the motor when its pulling and you end up with too much velocity which wouldnt work well with large primary jets, (idle very high).

The intake runners on that manifold taper down to very small where they meet the head. They work OK on 304s, but you see a lot of them sitting on shelves. You'd probably be better off with a performer manifold for off-roading. That carb looks like a double pumper with mechanical secondaries. Great for the drag strip (WOT), but not very good for low end and throttle response. Again, probably not a good choice for off-roading. I had very good luck with a 600 CFM Holley with vacuum secondaries on my 360 before going to EFI. I ran a Carter high volume mechanical pump on my Jeep for years. When I went EFI, I put it on my AMX. Definitely a superior pump to OEM. Bob tufcj

YA, like I said it came w/it & it was running etc. Yes, the carb has mechanical secondaries which I prefer. Carb not good for off roading, is there something in between for a good mix of both? So do U have any part numbers for a new carb & intake or........... P.S. I had it running w/the bulb :? for a little bit & it sounded great. Thanks, Jim

4WD.com has the intake and carbs. you can easily get them from most performance catalogs like summit racing or jegs. 4WD P/N's intake with EGR #2131 without EGR #3731 Holley 600 universal with vacuum secondaries #080457 Holley truck Avenger 670CFM #090470 these are their numbers you can probably get the intake cheaper from someone else but the carbs are what you can expect to pay anywhere.

Thanks. I don't have the EGR hooked up on Peaches Jeep (258) cause I did the nutter by-pass. What would be the best option as far as the EGR, Yes or No and what's the major difference. Thanks, Rollbar

The 6 psi Carter Mechanical Street Super Pump part no. is M6906.
Jegs has then for $70. For Holley's 6 psi is fine.

The Holley list number 0-4776 is a 600 cfm double pumper.
A 600 DP is pretty small actually. I have an 850 on a AMC 360.
Double Pumpers are sized based on minimum rpm at WOT.
If one is careful with how they use the gas pedal
double pumpers outperform vacuum secondaries
but I'm at hot rodder, not a jeeper.

I have not ran EGR.
Would say if local emissons don't require it, don't run it.

As they've said the Intake is good for low rpm's, would be restrictive as rpm's went up.

Could always try it out first with what you already have and see how it runs.
The inatke and carb can be changed later whith the motor in the jeep.
The small intake runners seem like they'd be good for low rpm jeepin'
and the double pumper has progreesive linkage so as long as
the gas pedal is only pushed down so far it is a 2 barrel.

MC sells refurbed edelbrock performers in the store here for a pretty good price they are 600cfm and are great off road and on and very easy to tune. he also has the AVS carbs which are similar but have a tunable air door on the secondaries

Yes, that fuel pump will work also. They're available at your local Advanced Auto Parts #6505 for about $30. For later model Jeep V8's the Fuel Line connections at the pump are up on top rather than hanging down below if that is desired. They're also available at Advanced but are a different part number. They can call pictures up on the screen at advanced, if ya get a helpful counter person. Going to go ahead and try the 4776 600 cfm double pumper Holley ? It does have all 4 butterflies smaller than all other double pumpers. All (4) are only 1-9/16 dia. butterflies, were others are all (4) 1-11/16 dia. up to 800 cfm.

for an offroad carb id suggest a holley truck avenger... they can run at some extreme angles & with the addition of a tuning jet kit (cheap purple plate that bolts between the fuel bowls & the carb body, replaces the stock jets with an adjustable unit) makes for easy tuning in the jets for your specific motor & additional upgrades... anything around 600-700 CFM would do fine on a nearly stock 360.. I run an edelbrock 600CFm just because it was in stock.. with offroad needles it does ok.. but coughs out at extreme angles..

I prefer the Carter 6906, I ran one on the Jeep until I went to EFI, and run one on the AMX now. Never any problems. Bob tufcj
